How I Learned to Value Health

Rasulullah SAW said that there are two blessings in which many people always incur loss which are health and free time. Health is wealth and it is not valued till sickness comes. Our good health is the real wealth as it provides us with a healthy body and mind as well as the ability to enjoy our entire lives while dealing with all of its challenges. It is related to sustainable development goals 3 which is good health and well-being. Good mental, physical, and social health are all promoted by good health. Here's a story about how I learned to value health as a valuable asset in life.

My story began when my whole family tested positive for Covid-19 except me. All my life, I would have never thought such a thing would happen to me as I was left alone in the house. It all started when my mom had a fever with a cough but we neglected it and assumed it as a normal fever. Back then, we did not take any precautionary actions and still abandoned the fact that it was Covid-19 symptoms. However, the moment I saw my family in the ambulance clearly changed my perceptions of Covid-19 and that it is real.

Besides, the story of Siti Sarah, a Malaysian’s artist who passed away a few days ago due to Covid-19 really opened my eyes about the importance of vaccination. This is because she never managed to get an appointment for vaccination and it affected her health badly when she was infected with Covid-19 especially being a pregnant mother. Truth be told, I am among the people that were hesitant to get the vaccine because of the rumors about the side effects like blood clots that will lead to death. I was not confident about it as I have to put my life on the line. However, these dramatic incidents in my life made me want to improve myself to be a better person regarding taking care of my health.

Afterwards, I began to take some precautionary actions as prevention from Covid-19 such as cleaning my hands often, covering my nose and mouth when I cough or sneeze and most importantly, getting myself vaccinated. Now, I am totally proud of myself because I am fully vaccinated and I started to encourage and spread awareness on the importance of vaccination to all my family and friends. Alhamdulillah, my family now is Covid free and fully vaccinated too.

To conclude, I believe that it is health that is wealth compared to pieces of gold or silver and the best investment we should ever make is towards our health. To all the people out there, it is never too late to take care of our health and make it our top priority especially during this pandemic which is spreading like haywire globally. Go get vaccinated and start practicing Covid-19 precautionary actions to save our lives and our beloved ones because every life on this earth matters the most.
